Tour of Great Britain
This tour will take you away to a whirlwind of sightseeing, medieval history and culture. You’ll hit the highlights of England, Scotland and Wales. Practice your Liverpudlian accent because you’re going to the birthplace of rock and roll’s original Fab Four. You don’t need a crown to stroll Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, and the photo opportunities you’ll come across in the Cambrian mountains of Wales will exhaust your film supply.
Day 1 - London to Oxford
A warm welcome from your Contiki crew as we begin with a city tour of London. See Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London and Westminster Abbey before heading west to the Royal town of Windsor. A chance to view the famous castle before continuing to the university town of Oxford. (D)
Day 2 - Oxford to York
Today we head north past the Peak District to the historic city of York. See Roman, Viking and medieval history in this famous walled city. An included walking tour by day and a chance to go ghost hunting at night after our included pub dinner. (B,D)
Day 3 - York to Edinburgh
Continuing north today we take a trip to the foot of the Pennine Mountains to view Hadrian’s Wall before crossing the border into bonnie Scotland. Our scenic drive takes us to the vibrant city of Edinburgh. Tonight an opportunity to try haggis and hear the stirring call of the bagpipes at a local Scottish evening. (B)
Day 4 - Edinburgh at leisure
Our city tour this morning introduces you to this cultural capital: See the castle and Holyrood Palace. Then the day is yours to explore the city. Why not walk the Royal Mile and shop for tartan and shortbread along Princes Street? (B,D)
Day 5 - Edinburgh to Scottish Highlands
Today we head north for the Dee Valley in the Grampian Mountains, close to Balmoral Castle. Enjoy the spectacular drive along the Whisky Trail to our home tonight in the beautiful Highlands. (B,D)
Day 6 - Highlands to Glasgow
First stop this morning is the famous Loch Ness. We continue south past Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, and through Glencoe before stopping on the shores of Loch Lomond. A chance to cruise on the lake before heading to Glasgow, situated on the banks of the river Clyde. (B)
Day 7 - Glasgow to Liverpool
South through Robert Burns country, we stop at Gretna Green. Leaving Scotland behind, we travel to Liverpool enjoying the spectacular scenery of the Lake District and Cumbrian Mountains. This afternoon, you will enjoy our included Magical Mystery Tour of memorable Beatles sights with our local guide. Tonight, why not join us for a farewell dinner and later enjoy Liverpool’s nightscene? (B)
Day 8 - Liverpool to London
We drive through the Mersey tunnel to the Roman town of Chester, where we enjoy an included tour with our local guide. Then to Wales for our lunch-stop before heading back to London, where we arrive at approx. 8pm. Don’t forget to swap addresses and e-mail contacts before saying goodbye to new friends. (B)
