24 Day Tour of the USA and Canada - The Grand Northern Tour

Break out your comic book sensibilities, Supermen and Superwomen, because it’s up, up, and away – no capes or fancy flight gear required. Simply point your mind, body and soul northward, and we’ll handle the rest. Ten U.S. states and two Canadian provinces post “welcome” signs, inviting you to sample, mix and remix their sights and sounds. When not steeped in the hip, nightlife of urban centers, relax in quaint, small towns or savor peaceful, natural locales.

Day 1 - New York to Boston:
Our drive this morning takes us up the east coast, where we make our first stop in Newport, Rhode Island – the yachting capital of the USA. We’ll drive past some of the beautiful summer mansions of America’s rich and famous. Then it’s on our way to Massachusetts, and the historic city of Boston. Hotel (D)

Day 2 - Boston at Leisure:
The day is yours to explore the city - visit Boston Common, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Marketplace, or Harvard University. Perhaps walk the Freedom Trail, take an optional historical trolley tour, or have a drink at the original "Cheers" bar. You’re free this evening to experience Boston’s nightlife! Hotel (B)

Day 3 - Boston to Quebec City:
We’ll depart Boston and continue up the New England coast to the state of Maine. After a lunch stop we'll continue to Quebec, Canada's French-speaking province. Join us tonight for dinner in the heart Quebec City and then experience the Canadian "joie de vivre" firsthand with lively nightlife opportunities.Hotel (B,D)

Day 4 - Quebec City at Leisure:
A guided tour of North America's only walled city is an excellent introduction to Quebec. Considered the heart of French-Canadian culture, and at one time the centre of New France, it will not take long to understand why Quebec City was given the prestige and honor of being named a World Heritage site. You'll have the afternoon to soak up the ambiance and allure of this romantic city as you explore on your own. Enjoy a breathtaking view of Quebec by joining us for an optional dinner in the city’s only revolving restaurant. Hotel (B)

Day 5 - Quebec City to Montreal:
This morning we continue through the beautiful Canadian countryside along the St. Lawrence River to Montreal. Upon arrival in Montreal, we take in a city tour that highlights the charm, culture and sophistication of Montreal. Hotel (B)

Day 6 - Montreal to Toronto:
Today we leave the province of Quebec and continue our journey through the St. Lawrence River Valley to Toronto. Along the way, we will travel through the beautiful Thousand Islands District. This afternoon, join us for a scenic boat cruise (optional). Bring your camera as we’ll see famous Boldt Castle and the smallest International Bridge in the world. Join us tonight for dinner and then a night out on the town. Hotel (B,D)

Day 7 - Toronto Free Day:
Start the day with an optional tour of the Skydome, home of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team. Then follow it up with breathtaking views of Toronto from the CN Tower, the world’s tallest freestanding structure. The rest of the day is yours to shop and experience the sites in Canada’s largest city! Hotel

Day 8 - Toronto to Niagara Falls:
Today we head to Canada’s premier tourist destination - Niagara Falls! Here you’ll have the oppportunity to take an exciting helicopter flight over the falls. We’ll also take an included cruise on the ‘Maid of the Mist’ and you will feel firsthand the power of Niagara Falls as we hover at the base of the falls. Tonight join us for dinner and the night-time illuminations of the falls. Hotel (B,D)

Day 9 - Niagara Falls to Cleveland:
It’s back into the United States today as we travel to a city with a unique motto – Cleveland Rocks! In that spirit, we will visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a museum dedicated to the living heritage of rock music. Our hotel is located in the heart of downtown, with many nightlife options nearby. Hotel (B,D)

Day 10 - Cleveland to Chicago:
We leave Cleveland, and head to the "Windy City" of Chicago. After a sightseeing tour of the city, we’ll settle into our hotel and get ready for our two-night stay in this cosmopolitan city. Our hotel is located downtown with plenty of nightlife and restaurants nearby. Hotel (B)

Day 11 - Chicago at Leisure:
The day is free to explore the sights of Chicago. Perhaps you will want to enjoy fantastic views by taking a trip to the Skydeck of the Sears Tower, the country’s tallest building. Shoppers will want to visit popular Michigan Avenue, while others might want to visit one of Chicago’s numerous museums. Tonight, experience Chicago’s fantastic nightlife! Hotel

Day 12 - Chicago to Madison:
This morning we head into America’s heartland towards the state of Wisconsin. Tonight’s stay is in Madison, the state capital of Wisconsin, and a city consistently ranked as one of the best places to live in America. Madison is also a bustling college town - home to 40,000 students at the University of Wisconsin. Hotel

Day 13 - Madison to Sioux Falls:
Today’s drive will feature the farmlands of the Midwest where many of America’s crops are grown. We will pass through the state of Minnesota on our way to Sioux Falls, South Dakota’s largest city, situated on the banks of the Big Sioux River. Hotel (B,D)

Day 14 - Sioux Falls to Mt. Rushmore:
Get your cameras ready, as today’s journey will take us across one of America’s most scenic areas - Badlands National Park. The colourful pinnacles, spires and canyons are a photographer’s dream. We make our home in the historic region of Deadwood/Lead, South Dakota. Hotel (B,D)

Day 15 - Mt. Rushmore:
First we visit the famous Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, where it took fourteen years to carve the faces of four American Presidents into the cliffs of South Dakota’s Black Hills. Then it’s on to the Crazy Horse Monument, a memorial to the Sioux warrior famous for the Battle of Little Bighorn. Hotel (B,D)

Day 16 - Mt. Rushmore to Cody:
Today we head towards the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming. En route, we will visit Devil’s Tower National Monument, as seen in the movie ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’. We end the day in the frontier town of Cody, named after western legend, Buffalo Bill Cody. Tonight join us for an optional rodeo (seasonal). Hotel (B)

Day 17 - Cody to Yellowstone:
This morning there is an opportunity to white-water raft on the Shoshone River, or visit the Buffalo Bill Museum. It’s then a short drive to America’s first National Park – Yellowstone. Accommodation for the next two nights is located inside the National Park. Cabin (B)

Day 18 - Yellowstone National Park:
We spend an entire day touring through the natural beauty of Yellowstone National Park. We’ll see mud pools, hot springs, waterfalls, and abundant wildlife. Of course no trip to Yellowstone would be complete without a visit to Old Faithful, America’s most famous geyser! Cabin

Day 19 - Yellowstone to Salt Lake City:
We leave Yellowstone today and head south into the state of Utah. Our overnight destination is Salt lake City - Home of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Upon arrival you will be able to view the impressive six-spired Temple and Mormon Tabernacle. Hotel (B)

Day 20 - Salt Lake City to Kanab via Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park:
The scenery is spectacular today as we view the multicolored "hoodoos" and dazzling colours of Bryce Canyon at over 8,000 feet (2,400 metres) above sea level. Take the opportunity to hike one of the many trails into the canyon, or simply relax and enjoy the amazing scenery. It’s a short drive to our second national park of the day, Zion. While in the park we will view the gigantic red and white stone formations of West Temple and Watchman. We’ll arrive at our final destination late afternoon. Hotel (B,D)

Day 21 Kanab to Grand Canyon Nation Park:
Today we’ll take a day trip to the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The remote North Rim is less visited which translates into peace and tranquillity and the views are spectacular. Today we’ll stop at multiple viewpoints along the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Tonight we return to Kanab. Hotel (B)

Day 22 - Kanab to Las Vegas:
We change pace this morning as we leave the beauty of the national parks, and head to the city of non stop excitement and glittering lights, Las Vegas. Our Las Vegas night tour travels down The Strip, home to many of the world’s largest hotels and casinos. The city tour ends with a showing of the Fremont Street Experience, the world’s greatest collective light show. After Fremont Street, why not take in a famous Las Vegas cabaret show? Hotel (B,D)

Day 23 - Las Vegas at Leisure:
The day is yours to explore this exciting city. Perhaps try your luck at the casinos – Caesars Palace, The Mirage, MGM Grand, or Luxor Pyramid. Maybe you’ll want to explore some of the attractions at the newer hotels – Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, or The Venetian. Feeling adventurous? Try the Big Shot at the top of the Stratosphere and catapult to the height of 327 metres (1,081 feet). Great shopping, concerts, fabulous restaurants, and 24-hour nightlife – Las Vegas is truly a city that never sleeps! Hotel

Day 24 - Las Vegas to Los Angeles (Anaheim): We will stop in Barstow this morning for the chance to do some outlet shopping, before heading back to Anaheim where your tour ends late this afternoon.(B)
