Featuring: Tasmania - Experience the untouched beauty of Australia's island state, from the national parks of Cradle Mountain and Freycinet to the history of Port Arthur and Hobart city.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Hobart to Strahan:

Trans Tasmania touring...with a difference. Get your adventure shoes on and let’s get started! Soon after leaving Hobart we get the opportunity to race headlong down the Derwent River on the Devil Jet Boat! Back on the road we’ll take in the natural beauty of Mt Field National Park and breathe in the fresh air at Russell Falls before heading west through the amazing King William Ranges. We’ll also stop at Cradle Mountain Lake St. Claire National Park for a chance to see Australia’s deepest lake. Our first home away from home will be Strahan - the only port on the rugged west coast of Tasmania. Hotel (D)

Day 2: Strahan to Lemonthyme Lodge
Heavenly gates. After breakfast you have the option to cruise across Macquarie Harbour via Hell’s Gate and Sarah Island, or see it from above on a scenic flight by seaplane. This afternoon we’ll cross the Tasmanian highlands to reach Lemonthyme Lodge near Cradle Mountain National Park, renowned for its breathtaking beauty. Lodge (B,D)

Day 3: Cradle Mountain National Park
Put on your walking shoes. If you think the view of Cradle Mountain is breathtaking, wait until you try the hike to Marion’s Peak! Or for those who want to take it a little easier, the crystal waters of the Dove Lake Circuit will beckon. If you still have the energy there is always the Champagne Falls walk back at the lodge. Lodge (B,D)

Day 4: Lemonthyme Lodge to Launceston
Taming the Tamar. After prying those weary legs out of bed we continue onto the north of the Apple Isle. We will call into the town of murals, Sheffield, on the way to Launceston. This afternoon we'll tempt you with some of the finest wine that the Tamar Valley is famous for. Hotel (B)

Day 5: Launceston to Bicheno
Toasting Wine Glass Bay! Early risers will be rewarded with more wine, Wine Glass Bay that is. After exploring Cataract Gorge, we head to the east coast of Tasmania and the picturesque Freycinet National Park, where we will climb to the lookout over spectacular Wine Glass Bay. This afternoon choose to explore the area further by foot, sea kayak or quad bike. Our day ends in the seaside hamlet of Bicheno. Hotel (B)

Day 6: Bicheno to Port Arthur
This island ain’t deserted! It’s onwards to the Tasman Peninsula. We’ll be seeing Port Arthur, the infamous penal settlement rich in Australian convict history, the Tasman Arch, Eaglehawk Neck, and the curiously named Doo Town. If you’re brave, after dinner why not experience a lamp-lit ghost tour of the penitentiary ruins? Hotel (B,D)

Day 7: Port Arthur to Hobart
Apple Isle style! We’ll start today with a fascinating step back in time when we tour the original convict settlement of Port Arthur in daylight. This afternoon we visit the Bonorong Wildlife Park, where you can see Tasmanian Devils in the flesh, before making our return to the Island State’s capital, Hobart. Hotel (B)

Day 8: Hobart
A sweet ending indeed! Today we will satisfy the most ardent chocaholic with a visit to the Cadbury Factory. We’ll take in the spectacular panoramic views of Hobart and the Derwent River from top of Mount Wellington - unbelievable! Take the option to breathe in the fresh air as we descend Mt. Wellington on 2 wheels with a bicycle ride back into the city centre! After a guided walking tour of historic Battery Point, a suburb retaining the character of a Cornish fishing village of the last century, you’ll have time to visit the Hobart Museum and Art Gallery. Our tour ends here but if you have fallen in love with Tassie why not hang around, tommorrow is the famous Salamanca market day (on most Saturdays). (B)
