15 Day Tour of Great Britain and Southern Ireland

The stout buzz you’ll feel is an excited traveler’s high, not remnants of our Guinness brewery stop-off. That’s our story and we’re sticking to it – just as you’ll cling to the fond memories of this tour of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Venture to landmark lochs, abbeys, castles, and palaces that need no introduction, and “yeah, yeah, yeah” this tour is waiting to take you to Liverpool, birthplace of The Beatles.

Day 1 - London to Oxford
A warm welcome from your Contiki crew as we begin with a city tour of London. See Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London and Westminster Abbey before heading west to the Royal town of Windsor. A chance to view the famous castle before continuing to the university town of Oxford. (B)

Day 2 - Oxford to York
We journey north past the Peak District to the historic city of York. See Roman, Viking and medieval history in this famous walled city. An included walking tour by day and a chance to go ghost hunting at night after our included pub dinner. (B)

Day 3 - York to Edinburgh
Today we take a trip to the foot of the Pennine Mountains to view Hadrian’s Wall. North into Bonnie Scotland for a scenic drive to the vibrant city of Edinburgh. Enjoy a first glimpse of this vibrant city on our including sightseeing tour this evening. (B,D)

Day 4 - Edinburgh at leisure
Today a chance to explore the city sights such as the Castle and Holyrood Palace, or perhaps walk the Royal Mile and shop for tartan and shortbread along Princes Street. Tonight why not try some haggis and experience the sound of bagpipes at a local Scottish Evening? (B)

Day 5 - Edinburgh to Scottish Highlands
Today we head north for the DeeValley in the Grampian Mountains, close to Balmoral Castle. Enjoy the spectacular drive along the Whisky Trail to our home tonight in the beautiful Highlands. (B,D)

Day 6 - Highlands to Glasgow
First stop this morning is the famous Loch Ness. We continue south past Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, and through Glencoe before stopping on the shores of Loch Lomond. A chance to cruise on the lake before heading to Glasgow, situated on the banks of the river Clyde. (B)

Day 7 - Glasgow to Liverpool
South through Robert Burns country, we stop at Gretna Green. Leaving Scotland behind, we travel to Liverpool enjoying the spectacular scenery of the Lake District and Cumbrian Mountains. This afternoon, you will enjoy our included Magical Mystery Tour of memorable Beatles sights with our local guide. Tonight, why not join us for dinner in town and later enjoy Liverpool’s nightscene? (B)

Day 8 - Liverpool to Dublin
We head to Chester and join our local guide for a tour of this Roman town and its Tudor architecture. We cross the border to Wales and stop for lunch at a seaside town on the North coast before catching our ferry to Dublin. (B,D)

Day 9 - Dublin to Galway
We’ll start the day with an opportunity to visit Kilmainham Gaol, that covers some of the most heroic and tragic events in Ireland's emergence as a modern country. Then it’s off to the Guinness Storehouse to see how the "black stuff" is made and sample a pint or two at Gravity Bar. Later, we head for the lively sea-side town of Galway. (B)

Day 10 - Galway at leisure
Why not make the most of this spectacular region and take the opportunity to try some adventure activities in the Connemara National Park? Then spend the afternoon exploring Galway town. (B,D)

Day 11 - Galway to Killarney
This morning we make a stop at the awesome 210m (700 ft) sheer cliffs of Moher before continuing to the quaint town of Killarney. Take the opportunity to ride in a jaunting car (horse and trap) through Killarney National Park and up to Muckross House, then perhaps enjoy some Celtic music at a local pub after dinner. (B,D)

Day 12 - Killarney to Cork
Enjoy a scenic drive along the Ring of Kerry this morning before a chance to get the gift of the gab at Blarney Castle. This afternoon enjoy time to explore the cosmopolitan city of Cork. (B,D)

Day 13 - Cork to Kilkenny:
Our first stop today is Cobh, the last port of call for the ill-fated Titanic. We stop at Midleton, home of the Jamesons Whiskey, for a guided tour of the old distillery before driving over the Knockmealdown mountains to the Rock of Cashel, a dramatic and spectacular limestone outcrop with fortifications. Arriving at Kilkenny, why not take a guided tour of the medieval town including Kilkenny Castle and St Canice’s Cathedral. Tonight, we suggest you quench your thirst at a local pub with traditional pub grub, local Kilkenny Ale and some good Irish craic! (B)

Day 14 - Kilkenny to Dublin
We’ll pull in to Dublin around lunchtime, where you’ll have the chance to take a guided tour of Trinity College during which you will see the Book of Kells. Enjoy free time this afternoon to soak up Dublin’s unique atmosphere before revving things up tonight with an opportunity to sample a traditional Irish meal and Irish dancing at Taylors Three Rock, one of Dublin’s best pubs and a great night out. (B)

Day 15 - Dublin to London
We head back to London and arrive at approximately 8.00pm. Don’t forget to swap addresses and e-mail contacts before saying goodbye to new friends. (B)
